Galapagos:
Tower Island
Located
at the inner part of Darwin Bay, this site contains an abundance of frigates
and other sea birds. It is 8-10 hours sailing from Santa Cruz.
It is
a low volcano barely breaking the surface of the ocean. Ships sail directly
into its large crater to anchor at the foot of the steep walls. It attracts
many seabirds, like frigate birds, red-footed and masked boobies, swallow-tailed
gulls and storm petrels. They all breed here by the thousands.
You
can also find sea lions, white-cheeked pintail ducks, and Galapagos doves.
Behind the small beach are a number of small tide pools, where lava gulls
and yellow-crowned night herons are seen.
